Earlier this afternoon, suave, man about town, Cornelius Mussel (pronounce the “u” as in “blue”), the Venezuelan authority on pearls, arrived in Kennett Square to place an insurance value on that rarest of all jewels, a natural, black, freshwater pearl. The Lenape Pearl, for that, indeed, is what Cornelius had come to see, is currently in the possession of one, Marjorie Lupin, Mainline socialite, and heiress to the Lupin millions (the family cornered the mulch market). Her sinister assistant, Joe (“Blue Ray”) Capiscum, had arranged a private showing of the pearl at the Brush and Palette scheduled to begin at 9.00pm this evening. There have been anonymous allegations that the pearl on show is a fake and that the insurance evaluation is a gigantic scam engineered by Cornelius and Marjorie. The plot thickens when Special Agent Leman discovers that Cornelius has been done to death with a blunt instrument in the Genesis Walkway at 6.45pm, just two hours before he had been due to announce the results of his evaluation. Special Agent Leman has no choice but to appeal to the public for help. And so the game begins...
